Prof. Dr. Stelian Coros

I am an Associate Professor in the Department of Computer Science at ETH Zurich, where I lead the Computational Robotics Lab (CRL). Prior to joining ETH Zurich, I was an Assistant Professor in the Robotics Institute at Carnegie Mellon University. I received my PhD in Computer Science from the University of British Columbia in 2011.

Through fundamental advances in numerical simulation and motion control algorithms, my research bridges the fields of robotics, visual computing and computational fabrication. Applications of my work range from studying the principles of dexterous manipulation and legged locomotion to computation-driven design for new breeds of bioinspired robots.

I am the recipient of an Alain Fournier Ph.D. Dissertation Award, an Intel Early Career Faculty Award, a Research Initiation Award by the US National Science Foundation, and in 2020 I was awarded an ERC Consolidator grant.
